(1980)
After a new cannery introduces scientifically augmented salmon to a seaside town in the Pacific Northwest, a species of mysterious, mutated sea creatures begin killing the men and raping the women.

The creature effects, while modestly funded, contributed significantly to the film’s cult reputation among horror fans. However, it performed reasonably well in drive-in theaters and developed a cult following over time.
The creature design is the primary draw — practical effects at their most ambitious, and any associated imagery carries that craft forward. Theatrical materials and production documentation are especially prized for the access they provide to the effects process.
Directed by Barbara Peeters, Humanoids from the Deep was made on a limited budget and followed the exploitation model popular at the time. The film received largely negative reviews from critics due to its exploitative elements and uneven tone. However, it performed reasonably well in drive-in theaters and developed a cult following over time.
