Overview and Horror Legacy

A post-apocalyptic Italian horror film that leans into grime, decay, and survivalist paranoia. It has become a cult staple among collectors of European exploitation cinema. Its tone is bleak, abrasive, and unapologetically low-budget.

Collector Market and Memorabilia

Collectors are drawn to its rat-driven apocalypse imagery and its claustrophobic industrial sets. The practical rat effects and grimy aesthetic give it strong grindhouse appeal. Its VHS-era reputation is strengthened by its extreme simplicity and relentless tone.

Cult Status

Directed by Claudio Fragasso, it was produced during Italy’s late-cycle exploitation wave of the 1980s. It circulated widely in international markets through heavily marketed home video releases.
