The film was made on a very low budget, with director Sam Raimi and his friends using creative techniques to achieve its effects. Bruce Campbell, who plays Ash, endured physically demanding scenes during filming. The “shaky cam” effect was created using improvised camera rigs to simulate the demon’s perspective.
Directed by Sam Raimi, the film was shot in rural Tennessee under difficult conditions. The crew used practical effects extensively, including stop-motion animation and makeup effects. Raimi’s energetic camera work became one of the film’s defining features.
Initially controversial for its intense violence, The Evil Dead gained popularity through word of mouth and became a cult classic. It launched a successful franchise and established Raimi and Campbell as key figures in horror cinema.
