(1981)
Five years after the horrible bloodbath at Camp Crystal Lake, new counselors roam the area, not sensing the ominous lurking presence that proves that the grisly legend is real.

This film marks the first appearance of Jason Voorhees as the primary antagonist, though he does not yet wear his iconic hockey mask. However, it was a commercial success and helped establish Jason Voorhees as one of horror’s most iconic villains, securing the franchise’s future.
The first film to feature Jason Voorhees as the killer — burlap sack over his head, machete in hand — is where the franchise's true mythology begins. The burlap-sack Jason design has its own devoted collector following separate from the hockey mask era, making this entry the genuine franchise origin.
Directed by Steve Miner, the film was made on a modest budget and follows the slasher formula established by its predecessor. However, it was a commercial success and helped establish Jason Voorhees as one of horror’s most iconic villains, securing the franchise’s future.
